Let's Talk
Let's talk about coverages. When you are asked to review your policies it's important to verify the accuracy of the physical details of the items you insure but of equal importance are the levels of coverage you choose. The saying "What you risk reveals what you value" could not be more true. If you are involved in an accident that results in injuries to you or persons in your vehicle do you want to risk your financial security on the chance that the other driver has levels of coverage that will adequately provide for all the expenses that arise from a serious injury. Unfortunately every driver on the road does not carry insurance or perhaps carries only the minimum amounts that are required by law. A hospital stay along with loss of income can leave you reeling financially.
The other side of the coin can be equally as daunting. If you are found at fault in a serious accident what are you willing to risk in the event that your levels of coverage are not sufficent to satisfy the demands of a lawsuit? Lawsuits are a reality, and unfortunately the settlement amount is not limited to your liablity limits, having 30/60 limits does not prevent a judgement of $100,000. The amount that exceeds your insurance limits will be your responsiblity!

Water Back-up Coverage
As severe weather seems to be the norm rather than the exception these days, it's good to make sure you have the coverage you need for your home and personal property. Make sure you have Water Back-up of Sewers and Drains coverge on your home-owners policy.
Most insurance companies offer the option to purchase this coverage. This endorsement covers direct physical loss to your home and contents caused by water or waterborne material that backs up through sewers or drains or overflows from a sump pump. This is especially beneficial if your basement is finished, or if it contains anything of value (like a furnace, hot water heater, or personal property) that could be damaged. KEEP IN MIND THAT WATER BACKUP COVERAGE DOES NOT APPLY TO A LOSS CASUED BY FLOODING.
